Master of Your Fate - by Jack R. Simpson 'Tis strange how independent man Prefers to sail the course he charts, Despite the riptides in his plan, Despite the wake of broken hearts. It's blind he cruises on his way, Striving o'er tumultuous streams, Assuming he will see the day, For realizing fondest dreams. Until one day the tide becomes Far more than mate alone can bear; He humbles self (to God succumbs). The Master will not leave him there. Instead He'll put the boat on course, Restore its progress o'er the waves That hammer with nerve-racking force To dispatch seamen to their graves. On wayward ship was where I'd been 'Til friendly witness caught my ear And told me of the Nazarene And how to stem my wildest fear. "Does truly such a man," I cried, "Exist and really care for me?" "He truly does!" my friend replied. "God sent his Son to set men free." So now I've learned (for He taught me) That pride and independence can Rise up like shoals from 'neath the sea To ground the ship of stubborn man. Contentment's now my lot in life. With Galilean at the wheel I sail the waters free from strife To spread the word that Christ is real So take the words of seamen true; Tho channels may not all be straight, He'll set your course and see you thru, Deposit you at Heaven's gate. |
