The photos were taken because of an accident [involving the Eastern] on April 9, 1968, at Kanaga, Ohio, (opposite Point Pleasant, W.Va., by Dan Owen, who was second mate on the Eastern at the time). It was built as the Isabella Queen by LaCrosse Riverboat Co. for Padre Island Riverboat Corporation, South Padre Island, Texas. • This photo of the Andre Ledoux was photographed on November 5, 1971, at St. Louis Ship in St. Louis, Mo. Photographer Dan Owen said that the day was dreary, overcast and bad for photographing almost anything outside. As luck would have it, as he rode out on the river on one of St. Louis Ship's small towboats to take the picture, a ray of sun popped out right on the boat. He said he didn't like the background particularly but he shot it anyway. St. Louis Ship liked the photo so much that they used it for several years in full-page advertisements. It was titled "Stand Out." The brand new white paint did make the boat stand out. The Andre Ledoux later became the Orleanian. Copyright by Dan Owen. Courtesy Boat Photo Museum.
