Ware, who had the forward and watch and Foley, who had the after watch, were at Hannibal, Mo., about to get ready to depart for Dubuque, Ia. Capt. Ware was notorious for tapping the roof bell on unsuspecting passengers who stood or sat by the bell. “Some of them darn near leaped over the railing,” said photographer John Miller. “There was never a dull moment when these two teamed up, and it was always a great pleasure to visit them. They are sorely missed.” Copyright John Robert Miller.
