Tom Waller was told by “an old SeaRiver hand” that when the vessel first came out there was a complement of 22 personnel aboard - a deck crew for the barges and a deck crew for the vessel.   • Mv. Kay A. Eckstein (originally the Daytona and later the Golpher State), photographed by Dan Owen on September 5, 1992, when she was upbound on the Mississippi River at East Carondelet, Ill. Built in Greenville, Miss., by Mainstream Shipy6ards in 1973, she burned in May 1999. She was officially renamed Olde K in April 2,000 by Marquette Transportation so that the name Kay A. Eckstein could be used on a new boat built in 2000 by Quality Shipyards, Houma, La. The hull of the burned boat was then donated to be sunk off the Gulf Coast to help form a fishing reef.
