- The containership Zembla is passing Duesseldorf on the Rhine, downbound to Rotterdam. The 2003-built vessel is equipped with fix container gliders. With a cargo capacity of about 7,500 tons rsp. 400 TEU and dimensions of 443 by 57 feet, this is the largest container vessel on the Rhine. The motorship has twin screws and develops 3,000 hp. - The first new-built, line-haul towboat on the Rhine was the WasserbÜffel, which was built in 1957 by Christoph Ruthof in Mainz. Having been sold several times, you see the boat as ZWABO 1 in this picture of the 90s, almost in the original state. Unfortunately, the boat was taken out of service in 1997, its hull being scrapped soon afterwards. The boat had originally 2 x 463 hp. and was able to push four 1,700-ton-barges. - Mv. Zwin is probably the last named boat listed in all the worldwide lists of boats. The 400 hp. vessel is owned by Roland Bauwens, Bruges, Belgium.
